Frascella's NFL Team Power Rankings: Method & Criteria

 

As many of you know, throughout the NFL season, I update my Team Power Rankings on a weekly basis. Often I get the question: 

How do you come up with these? What's the criteria? Well, here, this should help: 

1. Top level consistency over time. If you have top level consistency over time - Chiefs, Eagles, Bills - it's hard for you to drop very far on this list. 

2. The most recent week of play gets some weight, that's what makes this list fun and interesting. We are adjusting in real time for productive recent performance. I want this list to be somewhat 'alive.' 

3. Past, present and future. The full context of the team. 

4. I like explosive upside teams more than boring teams.

How do you come up with these? What's the criteria? Well, here, this should help: 

1. Top level consistency over time. If you have top level consistency over time - Mahomes, Lamar, Burrow, Allen - it's hard for you to drop very far on this list. 

2. The most recent week of play gets some weight, that's what makes this list fun and interesting. We are adjusting in real time for productive recent performance. I want this list to be somewhat 'alive.' 

3. Past, present and future. The full context of the quarterback. 

4. Stats I like, I keep it pretty simple: Passer Rating, QBR, Total Touchdowns, general sense of Efficiency.
